What's the Background?
Broad concept - over the next several years, ULC will be developing the building, particularly focusing on the Gilpin side. But more broadly, they are intersted in seeing this building evolve into a nonprofit center that also is developing as a center for community. Building a committee with participation from the community to advise in the development of the building.

Gilpin side of the property is the oldest part of the builidng. Revelopment of both Gilpin side and occupied side will likely happen over time.

Visit to San Fran to see functioning multitenant nonprofit centers - Matt and Aaron - visited 9 different nonprofit centers. some we're better funded than others with different degrees of grassroots involvement and service delivery. All had different governance structures. Some focused on common issues, some co-locating more to save money. Most of them were not truly community-based in their development of the site. Need to have a 3rd party management entity to help manage the tenants.

Could we possibly condoize this space? There are many fiscal challenges to that approach.

what would be a Multitenant Approach?
program sharing where complimentary constiuencies are being served
Write grants together
brochure of all the nps in this building and what they call do - ULC looking into it; need to determine audience for the brochure; needs to be bi-lingual; opening that says what we're doing as a collaborative group; we can use it for foundations; map of the building;

What's the Vision? - Its a community center, Serve the area and greater denver community; use each other as resources; synergy;
can we be deeply connected enough to the community and its need that this center atracted or invented the services and organizations that serve that needs as defined by the community.

How do we know what the communinity needs, wants, hopes for?
Using neighborhood associations (semi-regional) as one vehichle to convene folks, but we need to make sure we're convening broadly and reflecting everyone in the community. Use Piton's data resources to geo code the neighborhood and see who needs to be engaged. Community-centered could be one criteria to be in here? what would be other criteria?

How could we support each other's program/mission goals?
Jen - is working on a proposal to get funds to move into the empty green room. How might we wrap all of ourselves around the goals of creating a family resource center that servces the needs of the neighborhood?

Stephanie at SOS - are working with Citywild and Skyland already. work with kids from 8 to 18. going to be in greater partnership between SOS and citywild.

citywild is branching into fee for service work. have been working with Skyland on a climbing course. Looking towards doing a hiking group with skyland. skyland is using their vans.

What could we do together for back office functions?
Back office - great interest in this. We may need a full tech, communication audit of the infrastructure for future planning.
Could ULC lead bulk purchases. What if we all move to the same companies for our supplies, can we get better prices? Same Costco membership? Can we do office supply purchasing together? Share a costco card?

How to start? - possible support from foundations to get this concept started; we should demonstrate how we're working together already; may be some interest in a convening space for the community.

A few ideas for th builidng -
marquee that shows folks who's where in the building with a synopsis
set up lock box mailbox system;

Chuck Phillips - had a vision of this being an educational center that was community-based. How do we bring together the historical vision, the need and vision as defined by the community and realiities of viability in our current environment to shape a direction for the Phillips Center?
