GROUP 10- Examining barriers which limit the advocacy of non-profit organizations in the state.

Minutes-Group 10

ISSUES:

Examine the barriers which limit the advocacy of non-profit organizations in the state:
Non-profit organizations cannot help communities with tabor in place.
Non-profits are adverse to public policy and advocacy.
Tabor: tax-payer bill of rights-no tax increase unless votes approve.
Limitation can’t spend more in a new year than last year.

In Attendance:
Ronnie Rosenbum, Amy Rodda, Kris Abrams, Heidi Baker, Esther Gross, Maryanne Harvey, Josie Heath, Pete Gingrass
Next Actions:
Advocacy comes out of a shared desire to change. Need to have a sector-wide discussion. What are the resources out there to work on this issue? Who are our natural allies outside of our sector? School and libraries lumped into government, but might be in their own silos State-wide legislative and community advocacy, what is the difference? Levels of advocacy affecting the how….local, city, state are all avenues. Need to see a process to mobilize individuals, common shared vision V3- voice, vote, vision Robert Egger
